This month's guest speaker was Nancy Tribble from Next Step Pregnancy Services. Their organization provides free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, counseling, maternity clothes and diapers. The have a licensed nurse on staff. They are a pro life organization and 100% donation funded. They have an ongoing need for cash donations, diapers and other basic baby needs.
The Vision House/Jacob's Well dessert event raised $68,000! This is great news as it move them closer to their target amount of $160,000 to get the building started on Jacob's Well.
The recent Seattle Urban Academy guest speaker session was well attended and we believe that we should try for one guest speaker per month.
We will move ahead with the Thanksgiving baskets again this year. Albertson's is on board and will provide 'at cost' supplies for this project.
We decided to hold off on donations this month to stock pile funds for the busy holiday season. There are sure to be multiple causes that need funds during this time.
We also decided on adding two new committee members, who will start attending meetings in November.

Vision House Jacob’s Well fundraiser
On Saturday, October 16th myself, along with others from Campbell Nelson Nissan/Volkswagen family, attended a dessert fundraiser for Vision House Jacob’s Well.
This fundraising event was put on to bring in donations to help build the newest Vision House complex, Jacob’s Well in Shoreline. The event featured guest speakers, dessert and a wonderful performance by the Seattle Children’s Chorus.
The fundraiser brought in donations of $63,837. When added to the other fundraising proceeds, a total of $101,000 has been raised towards the goal of $160,000. These donations are needed to purchase the lumber to build the first phase of the Vision House Jacob’s Well project.

September turned out to be our first 'electronic' meeting!
Busy schedules and a number of committee members with flu bugs made this an easy choice.
The group discussed the Thanksgiving food baskets and it was decided to proceed with this effort. We will establish the cost of the baskets and move forward from there.
The needs of the Seattle Urban Academy was also discussed. They have an immediate need for scientific calculators for their math classes. The committee agreed that this was a good cause to support and we voted to provide a donation for the calculators.

We gathered for the August meeting on the 18th of the month.
The first subject of discussion was the Jacob's Well 'framing party'. Jay is gathering more information and will report back once a date is established.
The group voted to donate funds to the 'City Fest' event to help provide 'back to school' backpacks to families in need.
The recent Lynnwood apartment fire was also discussed. This fire left 70 to 80 people homeless. Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynnwood is providing emergency shelter for the fire victims. It was decided to donate funds to the church to help defray the cost of housing the fire victims and to help support any of the emergency shelter's future needs.
The group also discussed doing another Thanksgiving food basket effort this year. Everyone agreed this was a good effort last year and was worth repeating. We will research the cost of the effort and also research potential recipients.

July 2010
The July meeting began with a discussion on what should be the focus of our current donation efforts. We decided to support the Vision House/Jacob's Well project AND the Haiti rebuilding effort by spliting our donation between the two projects.
We also talked about the upcoming service day at Vision House. Sign up sheets are up and a good turn out is expected.
The group also discussed the Campbell Nelson Cares mission statement and decided that it does a good job od describing what we are about and what we support.

The June Meeting began with two guest speakers from Crista Ministries, Tom and Jacinta. Tom gave the group a brief overview of Crista and it's 7 divisions, and Jacinta gave us an update on World Concern's Haiti relief efforts.
Jacinta indicated that World Concern has been on the ground in Haiti for over 30 years. She said the January earthquake had killed over 300,000 people and had left 1 million people homeless. Initial life saving measures have ended and they have entered the provisional rebuilding phase. World Concern is currently paying over 2000 local people to clear rubble from their own homes in preparation for rebuilding efforts.
World Concern has developed several home prototypes and have settled one one design as the most appropriate. That prototype will cost around $1200.00 each. We thanked Tom and Jacinta for their visit and the relief efforts in Haiti.

May 2010
The group discussed the May 22nd service project at Vision House. The project was well attended by the friends and family of Campbell Nelson. Lawn and garden maintenance was completed at the facility. We agreed that it was a very fulfilling experience.

We also voted to support Michelle's Susan G. Komen Cancer Walk efforts with a donation.
